Where to buy IBM USB SATA HDD Enclosure?

#1 Post by siya-u » Fri Apr 16, 2010 6:58 pm

Hello,

I am looking for an genuine IBM USB HDD enclosure that accepts 2.5" SATA disc drives. I'm currently using a PATA (regular IDE) version of this enclosure and I'm totally satisfied with its build quality; but 2.5" IDE drives are limited with 160 GB capacity.

I found an ebay seller who listed the enclosure but unfortunately he's out of stock right now. Here's the listed item:

SATA IBM 2.5" Hard Disk Drive HDD USB CASE Enclosure

And here is a picture of enclosure:

Does anybody know an online shop who sells this enclosure (and ships internationally, since I'm living in Turkey)? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

This is not the same enclosure. The one which is genuine IBM has an "Access IBM" button on top and an on/off switch on rear side.

Thanks anyway

I wonder what the 'Access IBM' button does on that drive ...

The link from your first post points to the same seller (digizon) as my link, who uses the same picture for his re-stocked same item.
I don't see any difference between your and his picture.

I suppose it is used for "one touch backup" feature; which probably launches the pre-installed backup software.

Are you sure you cannot see any difference between those pictures?

The one on the right is produced by a 3rd party manufacturer. It is not a genuine IBM product; it only carries the IBM logo.

Thanks.

Many thanks! That's exactly what I've been looking for. The bad is, I haven't used ioffer web site for shopping before, and the seller (he's the same ebay seller) did not mention any shipping fee for international orders. I'll make a purchase anyway.

Thank you.

I just made my first purchase from iOffer last night for a non-US released DVD movie. Seemed to go ok so far. I notice with iOffer you can ask questions from the seller before making the purchase (as in ebay). In my case, I verified with the seller certain aspects of the sale before purchasing. In your case I would suggest asking the seller about shipping charges before purchasing.
