If you use the supplied software that comes with the unit, then it should work on all ThinkPads, yes.

I would like to use the (older) Fingerprint-Reader by Targus, which can be placed in an PCMCIA-slot but I am not sure if it will work with the IBM security software of my TP.

Does anyone know?

I saw a microsoft fingerprint reader at a b.b. over the weekend which plugged into a usb port and I got to wonder.
If one used such a device and accidently left home with the thinkpad but not the fingerprint reader. If the thinkpad would be rendered useless?

On another note how much more secure is the ibm fingerprint reader vs the microsoft external fingerprint reader?
