trouble shoot lcd screen

#1 Post by NautTboy » Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:43 pm

Most screen has 30 pins. If the screen is in good working condition, shouldn't it work with any laptop just like monitor works with any pc? Let say that inverters and video card is also working correctly.

testing t500 15.4 with working acer 15.6 screen laptop.
with acer inverter, lights come on but nothing on t500 screen.
with ibm inverter, no lights on acer screen, inverter might be BAD.
with ext monitor, post to booting screen lenovo logo, video card should be OK.
If t500 inverters bad, shouldn't it work with acer laptop?

Another words is, how can I tell if it's the lcd itself or the video cable?

I hate to order a new LCD and turn out that wasn't it caust that's not cheap.

Any suggestion guys?

Yeah, stick with IBM/Lenovo parts.
More often than not, these LCDs are specifically made for IBM/Lenovo and are not compatible with other brands (and vice versa).

These T500s are relatively new, don't mess with it and blow the warranty!

Well...keep on playing with non-OEM screens and you have an excellent chance of blowing the motherboard. LCDs made for different laptops (even by the same manufacturer) often have different pinouts...you can blow the fuse on the screen as well...

Care to share some history regarding that T500 so someone could actually help you?

It's not mine. My in law came to me to see if I can trouble shoot it. Since I had a spare LCD, I thought I switch it and see, etc. After unsuccessful fix attempt, I gave it back to him and have him send it in and pay for repair. Hopefully it's only LCD, inverter or video cable.
