#1 Post by irus » Wed May 05, 2010 11:36 pm

hi im looking for a laptop with a t42 sxga type screen and keyboard + durability to handle harsh environment like hot environment and dirty electricity and voltage fluctuations + extremely quiet and coolest possible temperature.

the first and last critera ( sxga 4:3 and temperature/coolest) being the most important.

If you want SXGA+, the T61 was the last to offer it.

No one can really answer your questions to your complete satisfation. There are a range of materials which you can read and of course you can read the posts here to get more insight. I think the best way is for you to go to a store and take a look. The machines are as sturdy as before, bearing in mind advances in technology and cost down. By and large no different than the past but you should see it physically in person.

Sounds like what you want is in an area to which Lenovo doesn't market; that is, harsh environment/durability. Thinkpads aren't designed for dirty, extreme environments, they're designed for human, indoor situations.

There used to be some specialty brands marketed for your needs, but offhand, I don't remember much about them. Probably premium pricing, too.

toughbook is too hefty. going to the store wont be of much use because those are new laptops, information on wear and tear wont be available as it is here.

ok supposing the harsh environment criteria is removed then which series runs the coolest and has the closest feel to a t42? im tilting towards a ULV processor on a X series?
