Intel chipset support for 7, Vista, XP on Lenovo website

Hi,

As I was reinstalling Windows, I looked for newer driver releases for my ThinkPad and found Intel Chipset Support for Windows 7, Vista and XP - ThinkPad on Lenovo website. Interestingly (or maybe not), T60/Z61 series are not listed among the supported systems. But since the closest Intel chipset drivers for these systems on Lenovo website are only for Vista, I decided to give it a go on my system. I would think if it is not intended for my system, then the fool-proof mechanism should trigger and the setup should recognize that the driver is not applicable for my system. But on the contrary, it installed. So far, the system is running without any problems. Fresh Windows 7 is quite snappy :)

Also, there appear to be two minor issues, which may or may not be related to this particular driver. There was one BSOD somewhere during the installations of my programs, and the second one is that the process 'Microsoft Search Filter Host' has been taking up to 50% cpu usage for 3 days now (since the installation) whenever I start windows. I don´t want to discuss these now, they may be well worth another thread in the proper section. I just mention them for the sake of complete and accurate report :)

So, could someone shed some light on the above linked Intel Chipset Driver and whether it is really supported or needed for the T60/Z61 chipsets under Windows 7?

Thanks,

Marin

You can got to the Intel site. There is a utility to see if you need updated drivers and will install them for you if you desire.

If you mean Intel driver update utility, then it showed nothing special, just my undetected audio device, undetected graphics and two other undetected devices I don´t remember anymore, but which definitely are not from Intel :) Not a single word about the chipset...
