Thinkpad charging problems

#1 Post by AnitaC » Wed May 19, 2010 12:54 pm

A couple of weeks ago my R50 suddenly, while in use, stopped being able to charge from the adapter. I tried using a spare adapter to rule out a failing adapter, but still no luck. There was no problems running the computer of the battery.
After researching a bit I decided that the power jack probably was broken, ordered a new, and replaced the part. The laptop now runs of the adapter again, though the adapter I used at the time it stopped charging now emits a sort of whirring noise that's audible at a distance.

Would you consider the problem solved by now, or have I missed something that could produce the problem again?

Should I replace the adapter? And could a faulty adapter somehow be connected to the power jack failing?

Is it normal for the indicator light on top of the laptop to take 8 seconds to come on when I plug in the adapter?

Thanks in advance,
Anita

Would say 8 seconds is unuually long. Can you borrow and adaptor and try it? Could be the adaptor shorting out the plug. Have you dropped it before? Is it hot?

I have already tried a different adaptor and it still takes 8 seconds for the indicator light to come on. I think the adaptor that makes the whirring sound may have been dropped a few times, though not from very high. It does get hot, but not more than I've experienced other adaptors get.
