HyDrive: integrated optical drive + SSD

#1 Post by wulfman » Mon May 31, 2010 3:57 am

Hola,

sounds like a seriously cool concept: take an optical drive, add a 32/64gb SSD into the same package, voila. Supposedly available in August.

I had originally planned to replace my harddisk with a SSD, and add an ultrabay harddisk adapter, but if Hitachi-LG really pulls this off, it is probably the better solution. Hopefully it will fit into the ultrabay of my T60...

I wouldn't count on this. They mention it will be a "standard size drive" which probably means 12.7mm height and UltraBay Slim in T60 takes 9.5mm drives only. Besides, they will definitely go with SATA interface and even if it was PATA, the connector would be different than what UltraBay Slim accepts.

It might work in R400/R500 and T510/W510 though which have Serial UltraBay Enhanced (takes SATA 12.7mm drives with standard SATA connector, AFAIK).
