I'll be moving this fall (tentative for now) to the dorms for school. I'm planning on using my T400 to quickly connect to monitor, keyboard, and mouse when I get into the dorm. When I leave the dorm I'd like to quickly unplug peripherals and resume portability again.
I've looked for many laptop related things but a desktop keyboard is new to me. I want something that has nice travel, has well spaced keys, is not terribly noisy, and is matte black to complement my T400. I was going to say feel like my Thinkpad keyboard but one can only wish
I also am not sure what the name of that notebook stand is. Yak has one in his
latest thread. Where would I find one similar?
TIA.

Good luck at school. I'd recommend an Advanced Minidock and a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. I've owned many keyboards over the years and it is the best by a wide margin. The keys feel very similar to a Thinkpad because they are low profile and the action is very smooth and quiet. Also it has backlit keys, and dorm rooms are not known to be the best lit places in the evening. If you are going to connect cables and peripherals many times, you'll thank me for recommending a Minidock.

ANY desktop keyboard will be a huge improvement over ANY laptop keyboard, because there is no overheating palmrest to deal with! Congratulations on your wise decision to get a desktop keyboard.
