OT. Firewall software

#1 Post by ChefJohn » Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:14 am

Until the last upgrade which "broke" the install I was using Comodo as my personal Firewall. But as it seems to happen I am now looking for a replacement. (I felt that every year or so you have to replace your various AV & Firewall software - they get too bloated or break themselves or ....)

So any recomendations?

The relation to Thinkpads - I was recomended both Comodo & Avaast by longtime thinkpad users - I know I know a real "stretch"

For a long time, long time ago I used to use TPF.. Tiny Personal Firewall. They closed up, but it was rock solid and configurable :)

Comodo Internet Security 4.0 (firewall only) and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010.

They coexist much better now, although you still must install KAV first, then Comodo for them to work side-by-side. I've been using this combination on my T43 for more than four years now. No virii or malware have made it past them on my machine.

I'm using Avast and Zone Alarm (Free) Firewall on my R61e - works great!

Avast doesn't include a real firewall unless you pay for the internet security version. It only includes a network protection feature to compliment a third-party firewall or windows firewall, which is worthless. I suggest trying comodo again, I have used it on many computers in the past and you really can't go wrong.
