Help with selecting a new thinkpad to replace my 600e

Hello,
I'm looking for some more help with selecting a new thinkpad. I've been getting advice from some friends and relatives but I thought I would ask the forum.
IN general, I'm trying to decide between the R series and the T series. I know I want 512k, at least 40G hard drive, and a CDRW/DVDROM. I'd like it to be light but it's not like I'll be very mobile with it. I would actually prefer it NOT to have the UltraNav as I absolutely love the Trackpoint of my 600e and am extremely comfortable and used to the whole design of the current computer. And, in terms of wireless. I've heard a bit of mixed review here. Some say stay away from integrated wireless and Pentium M is quite slow and that it's better to have an external card. But, have to admit some of this is a bit over my head:-)
Lastly, and this is the biggest. I hate to say it, but I have been getting A LOT of advice AWAY from the thinkpad because IBM has sold the division/or is about to. Is this actually scaring others from buying an IBM? I honestly don't know what else I would buy. I looked at the Apples but as a business user, it's not ideal as MAC doesn't support Access and so you still need to run Virtual PC. Even though I like the idea of no viruses.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, I'm trying to keep price reasonable under $2,000 all in.
Thanks so much.
