hello everybody,
first off, im new here so if this is in the wrong section then my bad.
I've been wanting to buy a thinkpad x40 for a while now, i wanted a small portable laptop for school but I'm not interested in a netbook. Now what i want to know is if a thinkpad is suitable for my needs.
Here's what I'm looking for:
-word processing, for notes and papers and stuff like that
-web browsing
-simple c/c++/java coding
-and youtube videos in 480p, for when i want to procrastinate or ignore the professor.

these are the simple things that i usually need a laptop for. i usually carry around a 15 inch laptop and im getting kinda tired of carrying it around so can a thinkpad x40 handle those simple tasks?

Welcome to the forum:

Unless you are getting the X40 for an extremely low price...I would recommend an X60. The X60 will support more memory, Windows 7, and a much larger hard drive.

Hi CDH,

I'm still running an X41 Tablet, and it does ok.
What makes the X41 work is having the 1.5 processor, 2 gigs RAM and most important, the Samsung SSD.

The SSD costs around $200, so even if you get the T40 for cheap, the price jumps up to the range where the X60 noted by BillP makes sense.

Good health, Weogo

thanks for the input,
the x60 was actually my first choice until recently when i accidentally washed my mp3 player, so now i need a new one. i checked on craigslist for sellers around my area, and i can get a x40(~$160) for about half the price of a x60(~$350).
i thought that the x40 can handle the simple task that i wanted to do, so i wanted to buy it and then also buy a mp3 player.
hmmm, guess i might just go for the x60 and go without a mp3 player for a while.

How much are you spending on your mp3 player? Here's one for $33.
