Powered USB Ports on Thinkpads (R51 in Particular)?

#1 Post by D-Man » Sat Mar 05, 2005 11:48 am

I ordered an iPod mini the other day, and with the newer models, they don't come with an A/C adapter. They charge when plugged into the USB port on the computer.

I read someplace that all USB ports are not powered (say on older computers and some laptops). Is the USB port on a R51 powered?

Thanks for any help - this place has been great for general knowledge.

My T40's USB2 ports are powered, so I am guessing that the R51, which has a similar system board, also has powered USB2 ports. I've only used low power devices though (2 USB flash drives and a floppy disk drive).

Give IBM a call if you want to know for sure.

I have a R31 (with USB 1.1) and they are both powered. I have used self powered USB enclosures ie: the USB cable has a double connector. No problems with the R31.
