won't play dvd's codec missing

Hello, I have an IBM T40 with Windows XP. My problem is it won't play dvd movies, no codec.
Could you guys help me? Thanks. p.s. I'm using windows media player 11

VLC (free) should do the job. Otherwise you can purchase PowerDVD or WinDVD...

K-lite codec pack basic. During install enable MPEG2-DVD for use with libmpeg2 codec. Good to go.
