Which Thinkpad Ultranav USB Keyboard is this?
40K9400
SK-8845 RC
I bought one online. It works decently, except its Function key does not work and it wont get recognized as the correct device and thereby show me the 'USB Ultranav' Tab in my Mouse Options to allow me to configure it. (i.e. With the Lenovo Drivers. Also, lot of online search and I cant find any drivers for it on IBM's site as well.. or Lenovos).
Are these models actually different or is the given part number simply a "business unit" difference.
Its IBM, not Lenovo and is made in 2010 (Lenovo ended it??). I did find the model present as Options for IBM Server machines / models.
Is there some way to have it detect as and use the last working Lenovo drivers for USB Ultranav?

Keyboard and part numbers completely different from this on Lenovo Offering.

Hiya Crash* ....
Noimally I wouldnt even read these kinda post(s) let along REPLY to them ..............however what cough my 'eye' was the fact that you bought these as IBM PARTS! ok ,, blah blah ,,,,,
if look at one of the links you provided; there is a NOTE in the middle of page
STATING the " driver issue"
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-45849
here is a copy of that note
"Note: Do not install the device driver included in the Software and User Guide CD on ThinkServerâ„¢ systems, as the device driver is not compatible with server operating systems. The keyboard, therefore, does not perform the following functions: "ThinkVantage or Access Lenovo (the blue button)", "Fn + F3", "Fn + F4", "Fn + F5", "Fn + F7", "Fn + F12", "Fn + Home", "Fn + End", and "Fn + Spacebar"........"""
Maybe its relevant ?
Cheers

Thanks for bothering to reply

. Relevant but in a Contra or Opposite way. The note you noticed.. talks of .. Lenovo Keyboard (as per Product Code - On the note) on IBM Server..
Here I have an IBM Keyboard (as per Product Code).. on a Lenovo Thinkpad..
Thats the thing. This has the IBM logo all over it. The original Thinkpad name is nowhere to be found on the KEYBOARD I have.
The model number is nowhere to be found in the Lenovo PRODUCT pages... and was only found on the OPTIONS of the IBM Servers.
Maybe this kind of hidden Product Identification that mixes the two is causing all the Driver issues people have been facing.. (here and Lenovo forums).

It would seem you have an IBM server keyboard.
IBM does have a current model listed on their server configurator and accessory pages, and as you'll see, your model number does seem similar to the numbering system of the currently offered model:
http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/we ... 8425150029
The drivers for which are available here:
http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/po ... MIGR-63629
You could try these, but remember, a server would run IBM i, i5/OS, Windows Server '08, Linux, AIX or UNIX. If these drivers don't work for you, it may not be the model, but the OS compatibility instead.
Good luck.

Thanks. Awesome.. Exactly what I might try out on a clone HDD and see how it works

Just looked a little deeper, and I see it's for a X3250 server:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/systems/supp ... 9y0124.pdf (Pg 35 / 53 of PDF)
It's an optional console keyboard, that when set up,
comes out of a drawer slot in the rack.
Additionally, when I tried 40K9400 in the support search, it redirected to the current model and to the same drivers. So, those should be the correct drivers.

Thanks for the help. I searched a lot and mostly I found both 40K9400 and another number on several pages as Options/Accessories, where one was the replacement for another (cant remember which was first). But for some funky reason I could not find the DRIVER page for it... I wonder how you got it

.
Thanks again. Lets see if it works.

Hello Crash,
I've been trying to do the same thing. Did the drivers work? I want my 40k9400 to be fully functional on my ThinkPad X40.

Still trying to figure out the "right" driver.

Hi,
maybe you want to try the latest UltraNav driver available here:

Have fun ...

The one I posted remains the most current driver pack offered by IBM for this, and likely would only have drivers specific to the OS's the related server series shipped with. If you're after Windows 7 compatibility now, you might be out of luck if the retail Lenovo UltraNav KB drivers don't work.

Got hold of one, the trackpoint seems to need disproportional forces between moving right and left though, that's, it's easier to move to the left than to the right.
Besides calling me a leftist, is there any other fix available...?
Cheers.

WD40?
Just kidding. I'd remove the trackpoint cap to see if the peg is truly centered or not. It could be defective. You may also be able to do some tweaking in mouse properties if the UltraNav driver for this model adds that tab to it.

If it's defective, I suppose I could replace it with a standard T4x keyboard, right...?
Cheers.
Edit: It shows up as a "Lite-On Tech" product among the Linux kernel message.

Question...
Is it possible to replace the actual keyboard module of this 40K9400 with one that comes with the Windows key...?
Cheers.
