Password/fingerprint on lid close

#1 Post by Asudef » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:25 pm

When I first got my T60p used, I played with the security settings and had it set to ask for a password/finger swipe but not go to sleep every time I close the lid. I recently updated the bios and Thinkvantage software and while it was working fine earlier today, it has suddenly stopped working.

I tried looking in the Client Security Solution and Windows power manager and screen saver and can't find anything.

Where do I set the option to ask for a finger swipe when the lid closes?

Ok, after a day or so of browsing around and sucking my time away from actual work, I found that it's under the ThinkVantage Power Manager under Global Power Settings under Events.

I have Lid Closed action set to No Action but in the Advanced panel, I have the Lock Workstation when lid is closed option checked and although closing the lid turns the LCD off, it doesn't beep even when the box is checked and doesn't lock when I close the lid anymore.

Could it be a latent bios/firmware update that caused this or if my Thinkpad isn't registering my lid closed any more.

This used to be a very useful feature for when I want to walk away from my machine but it no longer locks. Any ideas?

Check the settings again located at:

(Right-click on Desktop) > Properties > Screen Saver [tab] > Power [button] > Power Options Properties [window] > Advanced [tab].

Under "Power Buttons", see if there are any conflicts between those settings and the ones displayed in the ThinkVantage Power Manager.

With Screen Saver set to "(none)", I have my T43 (XP SP3) configured to go to sleep when the lid is closed, then prompt me for a fingerprint swipe when the lid is raised. With the latest updates to CSS and ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, it may not be possible any longer to close the lid without forcing the system to go to sleep.

Have you tried a System Restore back to a point before you updated the BIOS and the associated ThinkVantage software? I suspect that your previous configuration may actually have invoked the "Sleep" state, even though that was not reflected in your Power Manager and security settings.

It seems to be working fine now. I suspect the magnet lid sensor was just loose or there was a glitch in the software.

The way I have it set up is the computer locks itself when the lid closes much like Fn+F2 requiring only a finger swipe to unlock and sleep is mapped to Fn+F4.
