Ericsson F3507g or Gobi 2000 WWAN card?

#1 Post by Jason404 » Sun Sep 19, 2010 12:16 pm

I really need to get an internal WWAN card for my X200s, for 3G as well as GPS.

Are the Ericsson F3507g or Gobi 2000 broadly similar? Does it not matter is I get one or the other?

I understand that the Ericsson card has a serial interface for debugging, while the Gobi card does not. This is not important to me, but it tells me that there are some differences, which may be significant to me.

Do they work the same (including GPS)?

Quite apart from anything else, the Gobi 2000 is a quad-band 3G device, so it supports 3G operation on the 900MHz band which is important for Europe where 900Mhz service are becoming reasonably common.

However, AFAIK, the X200 doesn't have the Gobi 2000 on its whitelist so you'd need a modified BIOS to use it.

Cheers,
