Standard 90W AC Adapter Failure
The power adapter from my T400 died practically two years to date of getting it. No fraying wires or burning smell. It worked when I put it in my backpack and didn't coming out. Are there any fuses inside of it that might go off that could be soldered back in or something else I could try?

Re: Standard 90W AC Adapter Failure
Based upon an earlier 16V 4.5A adapter, I would say "no" to a fuse: http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_ac_adapter/ I don't know where this adapter is at the moment, but I vaguely remember that there was no fuse soldered to the board. I have not yet had the opportunity or desire to open up one of my 20V adapters and compare them. The case halves are probably ultrasonically welded or glued together, thus rendering this piece of equipment to the "No user serviceable parts inside" category. Of course, that's often a challenge to some people
. Most likely there's a pinched or disconnected wire if there's no indication of a burnt ceramic or plastic smell. I believe that there's some places that sell replacement cords (the DC end, with the correct barrel size and in-line choke) but then you still have the problem of keeping the case together and potential danger if it happens to come apart when it's being used.
Adapters are generally available off of eBay for around $20 (and under). I'd stay away from the "generic" or "works with IBM" type of adapters as some people have had problems with the so-called "cheap Chinese knock-offs". The Lenovo Outlet store also has them for sale at times.

In any practical (and safe) sense, no!bobbarker wrote:Are there any fuses inside of it that might go off that could be soldered back in or something else I could try?
Just buy another adapter, they aren't expensive.

Re: Standard 90W AC Adapter Failure
Thanks for the replies. The case does look pretty solid. Went ahead and got a non knock off adapter (I've already had my poor experience with knock offs on my X31).
