File sharing woes

#1 Post by CeeDee » Mon Nov 22, 2010 9:06 am

I have a T60p and a T60 both running Windows 7 Pro. My problem is that every time I boot the T60p I have to go to network properties and re-check file & print sharing, because it is unchecked.
The settings on both TPs are identical (as far as I can see) so I am at a loss as to what is causing the problem.
The problem exists when I log on to other networks also.
Any advice would be apreciated.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it only hapens on hardwired conections, Wireless is fine!

Wow am I the only person to ever experience this problem?
Or have I put it in the wrong place perhaps?

You can't expect the world to see your query in three hours - give people a chance!

I Googled this problem, having not experienced it myself, and found at least one instance of a fellow who had this problem and found that a BIOS update to his (unidentified) Thinkpad permanently remediated the issue. Are you up to date on your BIOS?

How about 1 day-3 hours and 29 minutes? but thank you for your response anyway. Yes I do have the latest bios on both laptops, it was one of the first things I tried. It's anoying because I have identical settings on both machines.

in control panel, network and sharing center, advanced sharing settings, is "turn on network discovery" checked and is "turn on file and printer sharing" checked? public folder sharing might also have to be checked.

Yes, both are checked on both machines. I'm sure it's going to be a simple switch somewhere, it's just that I don't know where else to look in Win 7. Thanks.
