Home cooked install disk question, T42p/T60p, Windows xp

Recently used a spare, the original to me, hdd to do a fresh o/s install on the T42p with a disk I made following the recipe at,
http://www.howtohaven.com/system/create ... disk.shtml.
All went well with online activation accomplished without so much as a hiccup.

All went well that is until after tweaking the o/s to suit me I started to install my stuff beginning with a copy of My documents from a usb drive. I left it alone for a bit during the copy only to return to find that I'd lost the old hdd. Could have been worse I suppose; it could've waited to die until after I'd gotten everything installed and just before I got around to doing a backup.

Anyway, whilst I await the arrival of another drive it occured to me that I might occupy a little of the time I'd expected to be spending on the T42p doing a similar exercise on the T60p. Question that occurs though is whether I need to create a new install disk specific to this machine or is it likely the disk I made for the T42p will work in the T60p. Both were purchased refurbished from IBM with XP Pro preinstalled.

Without reading all of that stuff, I'd say yes, it will work on your T60, provided it has its own COA.
If you'd get recovery disks, you wouldn't need your own key, as those disks have their own key built-in.

Good point. Think I'll test my R&R media before anything else. My inclination, longer term though, is to do a clean xp install without all the stuff that came preloaded on the machine & then plug in the stuff I want. Any real downside to that - other than the time involved of course? I've got a spare drive to play with so there doesn't seem to be much risk involved.

Turns out the install disk I made is uniquely identified with the COA from the T42p, so I guess it wouldn't be too wise to try to activate this particular copy of windoze on the T60p. Looks like I get to make another disk direct from the T60p & install xp again. Oh well, asked & answered - the hard way. ;(
