Lost IBM Battery MaxMizer Icon on TaskBar

#1 Post by robert213 » Sun Jan 16, 2011 2:56 pm

I am in process of reinstalling WinXP SP3 and application software on new HD on T30.

I installed Avast! anti-virus.
I installed Online-Armor firewall.

At some point after I installed Online-Armor firewall, I noticed that I lost my IBM Battery meter on TaskBar.

Please help me in putting it back.

msconfig shows...
pwrmonit.dll

online armor shows...
ctfmon.exe allowed
pwrmonit.dll allowed
Tppwr.sys allowed
tppwrsw32.dll allowed

tfsncofs.sys
tfsndrct.sys
tfsndres.sys
tfsnifs.sys
tfsnopio.sys

Does it work if you disable Avast and OnLine Armor?

What happens if you run the Battery MaxiMiser Wizard again? There should be a checkbox for the icon there.

When Windows starts up, Avast! and Online-Armor always become active. At this point, it is too late to disable them.

Where is the program for Battery MaxMiser Wizard?

Let's take another look in [Start][All Programs] menu list.

There it is!!!
[ThinkPad][ThinkPad][Utilities][Battery MaxiMiser Wizard]

Online-Armor pops-up with block against PwrWiz.ocs
[v] - Trust this program

Accept default options of IBM Battery MaxiMiser Setup Wizard
except...
Battery MaxiMiser Gauge
**[v] Show battery MaxiMiser Gauge on Taskbar

Online-Armor pops-up with block against PwrMonit.dll
[Allow]

Restart Windows...

and?????

.
.
.

There it is!

Thank you.

Online Armor is a great firewall program.
I used it for maybe a year or two, but in the end threw it out, because it's blocking messages drove me nuts, especially if you update or install new programs.
I now rely on the firewall in my ASUS router, and have no longer a software firewall.
My PC has thanked me by vastly improved running.

Danke schoen Herrn Guinneß Biermann! - (Please excuse my loose BabelFish translation)

As you have already concluded, I am doing my best to follow all of your advice.
(I recently switched over from AVG 8.5 and Zone Alarm 8.0)

With your help, my IBM T30 still keeps up with my GF's new Dell Intel Core i5 E6510. Her Dell is owned by the university where she teaches and is bogged down with unnecessary start-up, network, and security scripts.

Because I frequently browse the web at local restaurants and sandwich shops, I will still need a software firewall.
