hi, I just a got a new X201 tablet, i'm trying to install a Gobi 2000 WWAN card, 2 question
1) do i have to get it from Lenovo's site? will a ebay gobi from HP work?
2) the only reason i getting this card is b/c the GPS feature, i don't need others (ie 3G), do I have to pay subscription for the GPS feature?

It definitely wont work unless you flash a non-Lenovo BIOS into the X201 (not recommended). It may or may not work if you do flash a non-Lenovo BIOS into the X201.

I don't know what happens on a Gobi 2000, but with a Sony-Ericsson F3507G in an X200, I need to have a SIM (any SIM, it doesn't matter which ISP it was for or whether I had a valid account with the ISP concerned) installed in the X200 SIM slot for GPS to work.

Cheers,

I acquired Gobi 2000 and it was a bare card without any branding (whether HP, Lenovo or whatever) on it from ebay and it works flawlessly on the T410i.

Gobi includes GPS and A_GPS built in, and that is also work flawlessly as long as you are in the vehicle or in the outdoor area. It is difficult and mostly failed to lock the satellites within my office building.
