VLC and Thinkpad volume buttons

Hello.

When I play media through VLC, the volume buttons on my T500 will raise/lower the volume within the program which results in distortion at higher levels.
One workaround is that I can use the volume buttons while VLC is playing and the focus is elsewhere like on my web browser. However, this is a bit of a nuisance when I'm watching videos in full screen.
So, is there a way to prevent the volume buttons from affecting the VLC internal volume? So far, I've only observed this behavior with VLC.
To my recollection, I didn't have this happening on my T60p.

Thanks.

Try the "Ignore keyboard volume buttons" checkbox in Extras->Settings->All->Interface->Main->Qt (these names might be slightly different on your system as my VLC is set to German).

The tooltip to that option says:
With this option checked, the volume up, volume down and mute buttons on your keyboard will always change your system volume.

With this option unchecked, the volume buttons will change VLC's volume when VLC is selected and change the system volume when VLC is not selected.
This solved exactly the same problem on my X200.

Thank you yak!

I guess this was fixed in 1.1.7?
It should have been enabled by default.

Yes. This option was added in 1.1.7. In previous versions the volume buttons used to affect both system and VLC internal volume. I even created a patch to make it stop changing the internal volume :)

And yes, IMHO this new option should be ON by default or at least not as buried as it is. Oh well, at least it's there.

Woo! Thanks yak
The 'feature' bugged me a fair bit. Eventually got used to it and jabbed the Win key to focus explorer.exe before changing volume.
