My USB infrared mouse is goofy.

Hi!

I have an IBM USB infrared mouse (FRU 24P0501) but it is impossible to use it on most of the surfaces, especially if they are very smooth. It works more or less good on a mousepad. I have another one from Genious which works just fine. But I like my small black IBM mouse. :((((

Is there any way to make it work better?

Thank you,

Slasher

I don't see how use on non-optimal surfaces it could be improved while you are using the same optical sensor; I have probably gone through 6 different optical mice, and have seen a large variance in how differences in image sensors and tracking algorithms affect tracking in non-optimal situations. Not too constructive I guess, but want to try transplanting the electronics???

In all seriousness though, I think you'd be best suited for finding another mouse you like; they are getting pretty expendable these days. I recently bought a Logitech Mx1000 laser-sensor mouse, and unless another mouse of its type comes out, I am staying put. It tracks on plain white paper as well as most random hard surfaces better than any other input device I've ever tried.
