I have won an auction for a second-hand LG-Philips 15" screen, IBM P/N 92P6711 for NZ$45 and am picking it up tomorrow. (In about 22 hours actually.)

It's described as an SXGA+ screen, auction was for one with the option of buying a second. I asked the seller if it was a FlexView IPS screen and he didn't seem to know what I meant. He sells second-hand screens only from the looks of things on a New Zealand auction site and is a new seller. Here's the auction I won:

My T43 with SXGA+ FlexView recently developed a stuck vertical line of blue pixels so I'd like to replace that. If this screen *is* FlexView then I'll take the other as a spare. The problem is I don't know if it is. The seller already told me that he can't show it to me working as it's a bare screen. I'd prefer to not have to take my T43 half-dismantled (so I can test them) up to Auckland with me when I go to pick it up. The seller is offering a 30-day warranty so, if anything's wrong, I can return for a refund. I'd prefer to test at my leisure at home.

The problem is knowing if 92P6711 is FlexView or not previous to buying. I don't mind buying one and taking my chances but, as mentioned, if it IS IPS then I'd take two but don't want to spend the extra on a second if it's not. Google hasn't been too helpful. Does anyone know?

92P6711 is a 15in SXGA+ IDTech LCD panel that is an original part for an R52. Those R52 15" SXGA+ LCD' s are not flexview.

Interesting, thanks Harry. How do you know that they're not FlexViews? Do Lenovo say on those pages or is it from personal experience?
Odd that this guy is saying these LG-Philips things are 92P6711s then. I guess tomorrow could be interesting, I'll just get the one as I don't want a bunch of non-FlexView SXGA+ screens but am obligated to purchase the one I won.

No R52 was offered with an IPS screen. Not to mortals, anyway...

Also, if you look up any model that was offered with IPS, HMM will state which screens are FlexViews and which are not.

and look for the ltwbook. Look at the display description for any R52, and as George stated it would say IPS Flexview if it was offered originally, which of course it was not.

Handy to know, thanks George. How do you know this stuff? Just from experience or is / was it listed somewhere? I noticed that, on ThinkWiki, there was no FlexView screen listed on their TFT page that said it was fitted to an R52 so assumed that was the case. However a friend claims to have an R52 that has an SXGA+ FlexView. I haven't seen it and I didn't want to call him on it as he works in IT...

Cool, thanks. So far I've hardly read that back part of the HMMs. I mainly read them for FRU replacements.

Combination of the two.

That being said, I've seen enough "weird ducks", pre-production units and corporate special orders to last me about three lifetimes, which translates into my tendency to take every piece of information with a grain of salt.

Several people on this forum had R52s modded with IPS screens, it's a very simple swap, and works our of the box. I've also heard (never seen one in person, though) that there was a number of R52s ordered that way from the factory by a now-defunct telco outfit. No clue on the quantity involved.

However, if one can locate a FRU (many of them are not in the HMM) and match it with the documentation, the information provided by IBM/Lenovo is correct 99.99% of the time.

Thanks heaps for the input Harry and George. As it turned out when I went to pick it up there were a few deep scratches in the screen so I declined to complete the sale.
