Problem with Rescue & Recovery

#1 Post by westsailor » Wed May 11, 2011 11:32 am

I performed a full backup yesterday with R&R 4.21.0030 (Win XP).

As it turns out, I needed to do a recovery today (accidentally deleted an important app)

However, when I try to do a restore from yesterdays backup I get a message that R&R cannot perform the restore because the backup was made with a previous version of R&R. What?

This happens whether I try to restore individual files all the way to a full restore.

Never had a problem using R&R before. Any clues what might be going on?

Wow... google says NOTHING about problems with same version R&R restores :(

Ideas:
There are many errors when trying to use different versions though. Did you use 4.2 then install the patch for it? (I dont use R&R, another forum post here mentions the "patch")

In the "C:\RRBackups" ... a file TVT.txt
does it show: Ver=4.2

Is this a USB drive, is it plugged into USB 3?

Nope.. trying to restore from the exact same version as I used to back it up (4.21.0030).

Yes, the backup was made/is stored on a USB drive. I didn't know anything about having to have it in USB 3.

Come to think of it I might have had the drive plugged into USB 3 yesterday and might have put it in a different USB port to restore.

Would that make a difference?

I dunno, I was just thumbing through Lenovo support... and there was one issue somewhere when using 4.2, XP, and USB 3... the error was because they were using USB 3... seemed this one fix was to use USB 2. So after reading that... yea, seems that almost ANYTHING will confuse R&R... doesn't sound like a product i would EVER use :P

I wipe those backup programs that come with external USB drives as well... I guess I'm too used to backing up stuff manually from the old days... I use a WinRar password protected archive to backup my settings, another for my documents... I also made a custom XP DVD using nLite that when needed restores all my apps and tweaks, then i just unrar a few files to get my settings/data back... no muss no fuss... unless i forget the password... 0 chance of that and 0 chance someone will guess a mixed 40 char password :P

To be or not 2 be, that's a #$%^ of a Question <--- just try and hack a password similar to that :P
