Last update: November 24th, 2011
Perfect fit:
Micron
C400-series (MTFDDAK- part numbers)
Micron
C300-series (MTFDDAK- part numbers)
Samsung 830
Intel X25-E
Intel X25-M (-G201 part numbers)
Kingston SSDNow E-series
Intel 520 (For some 120GB, 180GB and 240GB models. Model numbers unknown)
Fits with spacer removal: (New screws needed, a local hardware store may have just what you need. I used M2x4mm.)
Intel drives (except 510 series)
Crucial M4
Crucial C300
Buffalo SSD-N*S/MC400 (*=size of drive)
I want to continually update this list for us because I think this could be of a lot of use to some of us. I will be looking myself for drives to add but I would also appreciate some community feedback on what SSDs you guys find that fit.

Updated with the new Samsung SSDs. If anyone knows of any other SSDs that have come around that are 7mm compatible let me know. Thanks!

For the Intel 320 series drives, a couple of strips of adhesive tape (I use 3M
magic tape) works well for attaching the metal cover on the discast drive base.
The Thinkpad caddy and rubber
rails keeps everything mechanically together once the drive is actually fitted to a ThinkPad, so there is no particular need for the mechanical strength of a screw to hold the metal cover in place.
Cheers,
Bill B.

Intel Cherryville 520 fits in 7mm slot. Although they do sell 7mm version of the drives, the only one I could find and order was the the 9mm. Remove the black spacer and replace with smaller screws and it fits fine.
I used screws from my Thinkpad T40 screw pack.

You might also add information which SSD supports hardware Full Disk Encryption.
According this post, for example Samsung 830 consumer version
does not support FDE.

Bump for a good thread.
The Plextor M3 Pro is also 7mm tall and should fit perfectly.

Crucial M4
Crucial C300
What does this mean exactly? Spacer removal? What kind of spacer has to be removed? Does it not come with the right screws?
So, can I make the 7mm Crucial M4 fit into the 9.5mm space of X61/ T61 / any standard HDD caddy/ slot on a Thinkpad?
If so, what do I need?
I want to get a 7mm assuming that when newer machines are out they could be thinner.
Right now its 9.5 mm in X61T, but in future machines might be thinner..
So should I opt for a 7mm drive instead? Future proofing?

Anyone got the SPACER plastic remaining from "slimming down" their SSD from 9.5mm to 7mm? I need to do the opposite?

I have been using a Transend TS8GSSD25-S for the past 5yr in a T23, with great service. Hope to put it in a T43 sometime soon. It is listed as 7.4mm, is it safe to assume this is a 7mm drive? Have been lurking the treads for more info and would even post Crystal numbers on the T23 if I knew more. Please point me to any direct info on a T43 install, and yes I have done a basic search just may have missed something. Did get to the Transend site for the software, but it wasn't much help, as S.M.A.R.T. didn't support my drive. Have yet to check firmware updates, as I'm not prepared to upgrade.
