Hi,

I really want a small Thinkpad (under 14 inch) with a higher resolution like 1600x900 or 1440x900. I want something extremely portable, but 1366x768 is almost unusable for real work. Some models of the discountined x301 had good resolutions, and i've used the discontinued Z series of Sony which was a 13.3" with 1680x1050 and a few special models had 1900x1200.

Is Lenevo going to release any models under 14 inch with higher then 1366x768 this year?

I've look around at other brands and can't seem to find any. Maybe this is because the move to LED backlight?

Ideas?

If the bezel was thin, a 14" 16:9 laptop is actually quite small, and 1600x900 is available for 14-inchers. But unfortunately, all current Thinkpads have ultra thick bezels.

The Macbook Air has 13.3" 1440x900.

... macintrash ... eww :P

But yea... looks like the X301 and Edge older models had it, current in any PC brand 768 is max height when under 14" :(

Finding one AT 14" & 1440x900 is relatively easy... just not below

So Sony just released a new version of the new S series with a 1600x900 screen (LED) in the 13.3" form factor. I wonder if Lenovo will have anything close this year?
http://news.cnet.com/new-sony-vaio-f-s- ... eStories.0

Sony size:
13.04" (W) x 0.95" (H) x 8.84" (D)

Lenovo just came out with the X1.
Lenovo X1 size (which is only available as 1366x768):
13.26" x 9.1" x 0.65-0.84";

The Sony can be configured with a AMD Radeon™ HD 6630M while lenovo uses the intel integrated
The Sony can have 2 SSD disks internal as a RAID 1.
The Sony uses i7 2600 series cpus while the lenovo has i5 2500 series cpus
The Lenovo has a trackpoint and the Sony doesnt.

Maybe I don't need a trackpoint. Hmmmmmm

It takes months to master the touchpad but it's worth it. Once you have weaned yourself off the trackpoint, you'll no longer be restricted to Thinkpads. When trying the touchpad, it's important to maximize the speed of the pointer. From my experience, the touchpad doesn't work well unless the pointer speed is maximized.

I am able to use a touchpad well, but I still love trackpoints, just feels better. Guess it is a matter of preference, like stick shift in a car, I love em, even though automatic is just plain easier :P

Funny you guys mention it. I just got a T420s and it has the worst screen I had to deal with in a long time. I just don't get why they made it so crappy. It's 1600x900 (which I hate) and I can see individual pixels with ease. And the huge bezel surround? Don't even get me started on that. I'm pondering if I can swap a screen from T410s into it. It might be equally bad but at least it will be proper 16:10. Really, they need to start putting better screens into these systems.

What's "proper" about 16:10?

If you can see individual pixels at 1600x900, wouldn't you see them much better at 1440x900 (lower resolution at same screen diagonal)?

I've used various Macs, older Thinkpads (T60/61) and never even thought about seeing pixels until I saw the T420s. My last T60 I just sold had 1440x1050 so I'm guessing it's not only resolution but quality of display itself.
