That is pretty hard luck. I can't say I have seen a ThinkPad do that in all the years I have used them, but that's just me. Assuming no physical damage, it sounds like just a system board, and I get those replaced (T30 memory slot issue) next day. So you shouldn't be out of commission for weeks. Let's hope not anyway. And cold comfort to you, I know, but your experience is not representative and not an indicator of overall low quality. ... JD Hurst

I can understand your frustrations. I would too be be very unhappy. However, I doubt that its a thinkpad trend. Or... I certainly hope not. Never heard of a case like yours, though. But good luck.

If you are in a major city, an alternative to Easy Serve which might result in less time without your machine is to find an authorized IBM repair shop in your area and see if they will work with you. When I had to get the fan replaced on my machine, my local shop looked at my machine, ordered the part, let me take it home, called me when the part came in, and replaced the fan in one day when I brought the machine back in. Maybe I was lucky but it might be worth a shot to try something like that.
