Outlook question

#1 Post by tenpointnine » Mon Jun 06, 2011 6:19 am

T60 user, computer novice, but I have a question about something which is happening in my email system. I am sure that people on here could sort it out in seconds!

In Microsoft Office Outlook, when I go to 'new' or 'forward', I can't type a message or an email address, the cursor just flashes and won't move. If I minimise the window, then maximise it again, the cursor becomes active and no problems. Another thing, if I try to copy a link from the browser, it won't paste into the email.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know how many people these days use Outlook, but it would help to know what OS and what version of Outlook (the more details the better)...

I saw this in Vista once... it was a plugin causing it, it had something todo with Vista's security (the copy/paste portion anyway)

BTW, are you on an Exchange server, is this in an office enviroment(i assume not as you are asking here and not the tech guy at work :P), do you use the calendar portion of Outlook? If no or unsure... have you looked at Thunderbird as an e-mail client?

If you are using Outlook just because it came with Office, you might want to give Thunderbird(e-mail), Lightning extension(calendar), and LibreOffice(more commonly OpenOffice, an MS Office free alternative).

My laptop is t60 running XP Pro, service pack 3. We are on an exchange server and I am using Outlook via internet Explorer 8.

Have I inadvertently downloaded an add-on to cause this?

I have run into this. You can try to fix by deleting your Windows mail account, then installing a new one. You do this from Control Panel / Mail /, not from within Outlook. Then once you create a new mail account in Windows, open Outlook and it will take you through the setup again. You will need your exchange server info, server name, id and pwd. Good luck. Also, please backup everything first!
