Internal info wanted on 02K6810 65W adapter
Recently my R51 AC power adaptor failed. when i dismantled it i came to know that two components failed. one is bridge rectifier & other is Input voltage regulator (IC)with 6 legs. As IC is burnt & broken i am unable to find Part number. My adaptor rating is INPUT-100-240V:1.5A
OUTPUT-16V-3.5A LPS. Plz let me know the IC part no.. thanks...

Re: Thinkpad R51 Adaptor IC partnumber
That machine uses a 16V 56W adaptor, what is the p/n on it? It wouldn't happen to be a P/N 02K6549 would it? If so there is a known problem with em burning up...
See: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Damage_in ... ing_melted
The 16V 65W adaptor I have is P/N 04H6197 FRU # 04H6136... There are many different 65W adaptors out there... what numbers does yours have?
P.S. Mine is sealed, no screws to access and see the chips

Re: Thinkpad R51 Adaptor IC partnumber
mine is P/N:02K6810 FRU P/N:02K6816.--11602K6810Z1Z3BJ21J48E
INPUT-100-240V:1.5A 50-60Hz.. OUTPUT-16V-3.5A LPS
Adaptor can be opened and restored back easily..
I guess IC part no will be same for all 16v 3.5A adaptors.

Re: Thinkpad R51 Adaptor IC partnumber
It's probably cheaper (and easier) to get another AC adapter.
Any other (original IBM or Lenovo) adapter will do, either a 65W 16V-3.5A or (better) a 90W 16V-4.5A version.

Re: Thinkpad R51 Adaptor IC partnumber
Would be an easy fix though with the right IC #'s...
You might ask the mods to move this to general hardware... and change the subject to "Internal info wanted on 02K6810 65W adaptor"... odds are someone has one and can open and post pics/info.
I almost didn't see the original post as I don't have an R51, but the 65W adaptor is for MANY machines.
Admin note: Moved from RAGZ to General HW/SW and re-titled

You guess is a poor one.thinkpads3232 wrote:I guess IC part no will be same for all 16v 3.5A adaptors.
The 65W power adapter is a black box device with no servicable parts..... it is intended to be replaced in its entirity if it fails. So there is no reason at all that any component would be the same for all posible instances of the adapter.
Cheers,
Bill B.

Re: Internal info wanted on 02K6810 65W adapter
IC part no will be same for all the similar models & voltage. Black box device( AC adaptor ) can be serviced easily. Most of the failures are common like fuse blown, bridge rectifier failure, capacitor worn. similar to SMPS in normal PC's. Myself rectified 3-4 adaptors. Can check online for instructions ...

It may be theoretically easy to fix, but it is not possible to say that "part x is always a problem" because you have such a small sample base (99.9999% of adapters that die are thrown out, and no one knows what part died). The only practical thing I can see to repair on a laptop power adapter is the cable - the box itself is (like said above) has no serviceable parts in it, and IMHO it is not worth trying to repair it, just get a new one, especially since you will not be able to get the same durability in the case as it was originally (they are welded using ultrasonic sounds).

Re: Internal info wanted on 02K6810 65W adapter
Glad there are lots of people don't think like that. Main reason I am able to repair Commodore C64/C128/etc power supplies that I am no longer able to buy new is people took em apart. And these are VERY un user friendly... some have a black epoxy like coating on everything inside (a true "brick"), while others are sealed screwless designs
Superglue works well enough to re-glue the plastic, I used it to rebuild my 701C NiMH battery... knocked it off the bench after super gluing it back together and it held... luckally it didn't chip the plastic itself.
Guess it's a good thing that the 65W was used for so MANY thinkpads (240 thru X41), or a bad thing in this case... too easy to find a replacement
Anyhoo, better to recycle then to fill up yet another landfill, part number noted in my Palm m105 along with other "watch for" items when I'm garage sale'ing or hunting resale shops
