I had three of these -one used mostly for Net & email and travelling, the other as a dedicated iTunes player and a third for parts. Only one left now and I want to upgrade before it dies.
Can someone please suggest a model (s) for about $100 as a repairable replacement ? I've got Photoshop etc on a desktop .
Thanks lots

T models are the successors from the 600 series. The x models with 4:3 screen ratio all have smaller keyboards.
If you take a T series, get one with integrated intel graphic gpu. The other ones with dedicated gpu tend to fail.

Unfortunately no. The T60 has 14 and 15 inch displays. I think your 600x has a 13.3 inch display. Other than that, there could be generally a problem by switching panels because of:
- the panel does not fit physically
- the panel must have a special chip
- the panels connectors do not fit right
I heard it's possible to changen panels between the 60 and 40 series, but I do not know more about that. I have a Flexview panel to sell, but you won't get your target price (around 100 USD for everything) with that anyway and I don't want to use this thread to sell my things. I'd take a thinkpad with a functional panel. In your price region, consider a T40 series. Although I would pay something more for the T60 series. It's a very great series. Maybe one of the best

If you want to reuse as many parts as possible, the newest Thinkpad that can use the hard drive, the PC100 RAM and the AC adapter is probably the T22. For the 13.3" XGA screen, the 13.3" T20/21/22/23 and R30/31/40 Thinkpads
may be able to use it but I am not sure.

Thanks lots- Been looking at the T60/61s - they are a bit pricey but I think I will
have to come up with the extra money. I 'll narrow down the choice and
come back to ask for advice.
Cheers

This T60 has the lowest Buy-It-Now price, of $159 shipped:

Is there a possible problem with passwords on these TPs ? I have heard that even when the
hard drive is formatted or completely replaced there still is a motherboard password.

If there are passwords, the seller would usually indicate that fact in the item description.

If it's not listed in the description, I recommend that you always ask the seller if the BIOS is accessible. Of particular importance is that one is able to press the F1 key at boot and then be presented with the BIOS menu, without having to press any other keys. There are some sellers that will say that you get the "lock screen" but just press the Enter key and you're in. What really is happening is that there is a BIOS password defined but the system has been set up so that you can only look at the settings. You will not be able to change anything in the BIOS. If you buy such a system, you have a ticking time bomb. When (not, if) the CMOS backup battery dies, the system will become a brick because you'll be forced to supply the correct password in order to reset the date and time. It will not allow booting of any kind.

Thanks to all ! Bought a T42 for $136 inc shipping.
Hope its OK - descriptions on eBay are very limited and pictures are
fuzzy - you'd think someone with a feedback of over 500
would know how to focus a picture by now.
Makes you wonder if its deliberate.
Cheers
