My second replacement SSD from OCZ arrived today. Thankfully, it's the Vertex Series 60GB (not the Plus), part number OCZSSD2-1VTX60G.

The fiasco started two days shy of one month ago with my desire to upgrade a T60 to an SSD for $50. Now I have a $10 rebate AMEX card and an unopened 60GB SSD, which will be listied on eBay later today. I'm pretty sure I'll clear $50 for the SSD, but I won't get back my time! Of course, the lesson is invaluable. Hopefully, this saga will be history soon.

My T60 will get an Intel SSD (just like my T400s, Z61m and Edge E120) or stick with its 100GB 7K2 Travelstar.

FInal Note: The replacement SSD sold on eBay. After two return shipping charges to OCZ, eBay fees, PayPal fees and another shipping fee, I cleared $57. So I'm plus $7 after a month of frustration and wasted time trying to get the drive to work. Caveat Emptor.

Wow
that's epic story. I wanted an SSD for my office PC and the company bought an OCZ vertex 2 3.5" SSD. This is for a desktop.
I managed to migrate a 5 years old win xp from the HDD to the SSD using Acronis. So far so good - it runs pretty fast, no problem.
The problems I had were that when both the SSD and HDD are connected to the SATA controllers, all hiren boot cd partitioning/imaging tools either hang or didnt see the SSD.
I am not sure if this was an SSD problem, or my PC's, but after reading all that it seems OCZ is 'flaky' at best.

well crap.

I thought I remembered which OCZ drive had the problems and I remembered it wrong. I bought a 60gb Vertex Plus at MicroCenter this week. Tried loading up various flavors of linux only to have none of them work.

at least they're local and that makes it easy to return.

edit: it fit the sled and into the slot on my X60tablet with zero effort. perfect.

The T6x/R6x/X6x have rubber rails around the caddy, giving more room than previous T4x/R5x models and older.
Those don't have rails, and if the SSD is just a fraction too wide (and that's the problem with those crap drives), it will not fit in the drivebay.
Down with OCZ!
