CD/DVD drive failure to eject disc

#1 Post by antelope » Tue Apr 05, 2005 4:16 am

I am still getting used to my T42 but one thing that strikes me as odd is that the CD/DVD drive often times does not eject a disc when I attempt to do so. I have the CD-RW/DVD-R drive listed as HL-DT-ST-RW/DVD GCC-4242N in the hardware profile.

This is what I've found:
1. Pushing the blue button on the tray opens it if there is no disc inserted; it does not open the tray if a disc has been in use (and is no longer active).
2. Going to My Computer/Control Panel/D: and hitting Eject Disc usually does not work after finishing with a disc.
3. I usually need to hibernate or restart then My Computer/Control Panel/D:/Eject Disc to get the tray to open.

Is this normal? The one noteable exception I experienced was burning the several recovery discs, but that application prompted the CD change. I've only used CDs so far, no DVDs.

No, it's not normal....is the CD/DVD still running when you try to eject (light on on the drive door?). If the light stays on no matter what and/or it's off and still doesn't eject, I would ask IBM for another drive if still under warranty. Seems like I've seen a lot of posts about this problem from others and all who have asked have had their drives replaced under warranty for free.

Antelope...you might also check this post out (2 threads under yours)...same or similar problems as you're having: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
Are you running DLA?

I turned the DLA off and now it appears to works fine, at least on the one trial run I made. I just pushed the blue button and out popped the disc. What a relief.

Thanks for the help and links MIJ! Now if only I could get me DVI display working . . . . (separate post)
