Is there a way to slow down a Thinkpad?

#1 Post by Skysurfer » Fri Sep 30, 2011 4:24 pm

Hi,

I create a lot of spreadsheet and database files/applications for others and I try to mimic as much as I can the end-user's experience. Is there a way to slow down the processing time of a W520 to the speed of average or older computer? Is there a program on the market that does that kind of thing?

If you go into power manager advanced setting page, System settings, there is a option to set the cpu speed - lowest, low, Adaptive, Highest. Lowest sets to the lowest cpu speed (not sure exactly what it is for a sandy bridge cpu), and the rest go up accordingly. Adaptive is special in that is slows down the cpu when it is not being used and increases the speed when it is, so that you get the best power savings to performance ratio.

Lowest should be comparable to a fast core 2 duo system (IMHO), and should give you a fairly accurate representation.

Thanks!

Just tried it on my T43 and worked like a charm. Good old "Access IBM" button. Hopefully same result on W520.
