T42 key replacement

#1 Post by ziloo » Fri Jul 01, 2022 3:29 am

Hello Folks,

I am trying to replace a couple of keys on a T42. The keyboard is good but
it is missing two keys and the associated blue conical rubber pieces  .
I am taking the keys from another faulty keyboard. I can remove the blue
rubber piece with a knife (any other suggestion?), but what kind of adhesive
do you suggest for fixing the rubbers on the good keyboard?

Thank you

ziloo

A small dab of rubber cement should hold it in place. In the past, I've put those rubber springs in without any adhesive, just the pressure of the key and hinges will hold them in place.

Do first make sure your 2 keyboards are the same kind though as there are 3 types of switches for T4x family.
That said if both of your keyboards use blue domes then both would be NMB and hence compatible.
Usually the domes can be removed by just your fingernails in my opinion. Take care when transplanting the switches though as that can be fragile.
