T43 recovery
T43 recovery
Hi all.
I bought a used Fujitsu FRU P/N 13N6913 HDD, put it in a Thinkpad T43 and it turned out that there is a working recovery partition on it.
My question is will this recovery partition be compatible with other T4x or R5x series Thinkpads?
I would also like a link with information on how to use this partition because I have never used the IBM recovery partition before.

Re: T43 recovery
That depends on what recovery partition it is. These drives originally came with T43/R52 units - so this is probably what it will match. T40/41/42/R50/51 are a bit different. That's assuming the original owner did not change it.

Re: T43 recovery
Most likely that it will freeze entering windows, with error 0x00000007B. But you can try, and maybe the chipsets are the same or similar enough for it to work.

Re: T43 recovery
Something to bear in mind with recovery partitions is that in many cases, the data on the recovery partition is just a hard disk image created after the factory software install was completed. It varies from machine type to machine type, even in the same family. The only way to get the correct software for all machine types of a certain family is to use the recovery media for that type (CDs, DVDs, USB recovery etc.).
So even if the HDD recovery partition is for a T43, chances are if you try to restore it, there will be missing (or extra) drivers/software installed that was needed on the other model. If this is the case though, usually the underlying kernel requirements (storage drivers, etc.) are correct enough for you to be able to boot to the OS and add the missing software yourself.

Re: T43 recovery
Success I was able to use the recovery partition.
Win XP service pak 2 in the Polish version has been installed, which makes me happy.
It's the first time I've dealt with an IBM recovery partition and it didn't turn out perfectly, especially since my English is not very good.
I did not get an internet connection, although I connected the Thinkpad T43 with a cable to the router.
All apps except nortonav installed because batch file not found.
Some drivers are also missing. When you right-click on the "My Computer" icon in the properties window, the IBM logo appears.
Earlier, I put this disk into a Thinkpad R52 and it turned out that it also sees this recovery partition.
However, I decided that I would install this drive on a Thinkpad T43, I have one produced before the Lenovo acquisition, unfortunately they started to break down and I had to use another T43
During the recovery, the installer didn't ask for a win XP produkt key, and I was convinced that I would need the key located on the bottom of the laptop. I have a question, can I use this recovery partition to burn recovery discs?

Re: T43 recovery
Yes. Recovery partitions of that generation should install a tool that should allow you to burn one copy of the recovery discs. Of course, later you can just duplicate them with a third-party utility.
