T40p Screen is wild

#1 Post by dafi » Mon Jun 05, 2023 8:14 am

Hi everyone,

I have to say; I am not an expert. But I’ve had my T40p since almost 20 years and I currently only use it to send files to a laser cutter. It is not connected to the internet and only has Windows XP and Corel Draw 8 installed. That's all I need for now.

More and more often, my screen gives me these wild and coarse pixel images. I have to restart, and sometimes it is better, sometimes I can't work at all. Is that a common problem? What component would I have to address to fix it?

Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Dafi

PS: I didn't know how to post a photos, sorry. Here's a link to a photo of my current screen problem: https://ibb.co/z7kJxww

The T40p is almost twenty years old by now. Anything can go wrong at this point. You could test the RAM since it's a common failure point.

GPU is failing would be my guess.

if it has an XGA screen (or 15" SXGA+), you could also replace the motherboard with an Intel GPU version.
