T42 2373-JTU Wifi Driver for T60H786-U ?

#1 Post by Prodeje79 » Fri Oct 21, 2011 10:38 pm

I am doing a fresh install of XP SP3.
Which network/wifi driver should I be using?
It seems my wifi was flakey. I am debating to upgrade. Maybe it is going bad.
The model of the wifi card is T60H786-U.
It is Rev2.
The card has 2 wires, main and aux.
What the best driver to use?

What internal card should I consider upgrading too?

I tried searching and it says "No posts were found because the word t60h786 is not contained in any post."

Thanks!

If it's the original card, here's the driver:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-67214

After downloading it and extracting the file, go to C>Drivers>Win>Wlanath and run the setup file from there.

OK to just get my other drivers on the support site as well?
ATI 7500 and audio OK although outdated?

I guess there's no harm in updating them, especially the graphics...

What are you using to control the wireless? Access Connections or Windows?

Windows, I do not like access connections.
Hopefully I do not have to use it.

Well, here's what I can tell you...

a) A number of people reported SP3 messing up the wireless on their ThinkPads - quite a few posts on Lenovo's forum regarding that - I wouldn't know since I'm not running SP3.

b) Access Connections - which I dislike as well - sometimes works wonders when all the other options are exhausted...

Good luck.

OK I will try it out.
Can I install a different (and better) card inside here instead?????

Personally, that's my favourite one (IBM abg)...you can look on feebay for a "n" card, there are some out there, Atheros-chipped just like yours...

what FRU should I search for that will fit the T42?

I got an N card for my T60p. :)
Will it have the same SP3 issues???

There is no "n" card with a FRU for T42...it takes a mini-PCI, so it's going to be an aftermarket card and require a "no-1802" hack...something like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Atheros-AR5 ... 3a6bb84bb3

No clue on SP3 vs. 42T0825, sorry...

Any word on any better solutions (and/or updated drivers) yet for SP3 and my OEM T42 wifi adapter???
currently using:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-67214

I am giving my mom my T42. I am a few hours away now trying to get it to work at her house.
My T400 and T60p are connecting fine, but this T42 just hangs on "acquiring address" in Windows networking.
I guess I will try Access Connections on it again.
Does it matter which version? link appreciated, although I am going to search now....
thanks!

EDIT: OK I think I found i!
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... IGR-4ZLNJB

EDIT2:
Interesting idea about rolling back the ETHERNET driver to fix the WIFI issue:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-pri ... td-p/83710

The driver link posted no longer works.
I am trying to find 7.2.17.101 or older for the Intel PRO/1000 LAN adapter
OK google don't fail me now....

EDIT3:
OK I keep finding malware trying to find the driver.....
I went ahead and disabled the Ethernet adapter, it took some time, but finally connected!
If anyone finds this driver or older please post, it bothers me having to disable it! :)

EDIT99:
OK the site says it is a newer version, but the txt file says it is 7.2.17.101
http://www.allpcdrivers.com/drivers/lap ... 000xp.html
Let's see what happens!

EDIT100:
!!!!
It worked!
The XML file shows 7.2.17.101 and in windows it shows it too now!
Windows would not allow me "upgrade" or "roll back",
I had to tell it which I wanted to use, using the LAST radio button!!!
The normal one I would use where I choose the path would not work.
