T30 and T40 cracked screens: possible replacements?

#1 Post by jivago » Thu Apr 07, 2005 9:25 am

I tried several searches and didn't find anything useful.

I'm getting from my university surplus, a T30 (2366-45U) and a T40 (2379-D6U), both with hopelessly cracked screens. I don't have physical possession of them yet to see actual part numbers on the screens. Apparently the T30 has a 14.1 XGA(1024x768), and the T40 has a 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) screen.

I'm looking around for replacement screens on eBay and other places. I found a list of part numbers on IBMs site, but it is unclear to me as to what might be an acceptable substitution for what.

Does anyone know what screens could be used in either of both of these? There are various manufactures etc. Could I put a 1400x1050 screen in the T30? Or a 1024X768 in the T40 (which would be a shame I know). Do all the T30s use the same data connectors and physical support structures? What about the T40? I'd like to get one of the other running as soon as I can, and fix the other when a good deal comes down the pike.

I was an IBM certified laptop technician back in the 760 and 600 era for CompuCom, and a Compaq certified technician working for Compaq for every Compaq/Digital laptop after that for a couple of years. I don't expect any problems on the assembly/disassembly side of the equation. It's just the $$ for the replacements that's an issue for my small, poor EDU dept.

Thanks,

John
