Connecting to iPhone 4 via WiFi
Connecting to iPhone 4 via WiFi
Hi-
I'm the new, happy owner of a T42p, but I can't connect it to my iPhone 4's Personal Hotspot via WiFi. The T42p tries for a while, and the iPhone reports a connection, but in the end I see "Limited or no connectivity" for the status in the Wireless Network Connection. The iPhone connection has been set as:
Network Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Data encryption: AES
I'm using the Windows connection facilities.
The USB connection to the Personal Hotspot works.
I can connect to other WiFi spots.
Any ideas?
TIA

Re: Connecting to iPhone 4 via WiFi
It sounds like the wifi card in the T42 can't get the proper security settings set.
I know that older Wifi cards may not have WPA2 security capability. I can't remember if you can even change the WPA key on the iPhone 4 or not.

OK so you've got an Intel 2200BG in there...which should support all encryption types.
Try using Intel's own utility, or Access Connections, and see whether that yields a better result...

Re: Connecting to iPhone 4 via WiFi
I got it to work, but I have to say that ALL of Intel's software was a big disappointment. Their ActiveX auto-detect program on their site, and their PROSet Wireless Basic Enterprise Software for Windows, and their Pro Wireless Driver install sw did NOTHING (device manager still shows the previous version, 9.0.4.37).
In another forum I saw a suggestion to repair the Intel wireless adapter software (Add/Remove Programs). I ran the Modify and then the Repair options, after I had tried to run the Intel sw. I rebooted, and now it works (I can use the iPhone 4's Personal Hotspot to surf), but I don't know what was responsible.
Another annoyance - both ThinkVantage Access Connections and Windows can manage connections. But TAC doesn't notify you that Windows is managing the connections, so it's unclear what, if anything, it does when Windows is set to manage the connections. And I have not been able to get it to show any wireless networks.

Re: Connecting to iPhone 4 via WiFi
Ooops, no, that only worked once. I ended up fixing the problem (I hope, dammit), but only after reinstalling TAC and redefining the network connection to the iPhone. Hate to think how many hours I burned on this.
