T43 dead after SATA Mod

#1 Post by cleaner » Thu Oct 27, 2011 8:04 am

Hello,

first, thank you all guys for this very helpful place! Only reading over the last years, now here is my first post (sorry for my bad english) - maybe you can help me.

After a few weeks reading about the possibility to activate an SSD, i decided to do the SATA Mod with my T43: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 8&start=60

After proudly finishing my work successfully, i realized, the Thinkpad won´t turn on anymore (there is only a "BOD" after pushing power button). What´s gonna wrong?
I have been searching for several errors and solutions (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67141) in the FAQ´s, but none of them helps me.

I can´t belive, that cutting the Marvell Chip (only the 4 SATA lines) would be the reason. Now, i´m totally down because of probably ruining my 5 year old T43 (2668-Lxx).

Is there anybody out there, who maybe has a hint/solution for me?

Thank you

My guess would be that you have some short somewhere. I would recommend against cutting traces as it could damage the inner layers of the system board. Always prefer unsoldering.

You could check with a manifier glass whether you have shorted traces with flux somewhere, examine the board throughly and clean it with a toothbrush+isopropyl alcohol.
