T43 New XP install - doesn't recognize wireless card, can't
T43 New XP install - doesn't recognize wireless card, can't
I love my T-43. But a few months ago, I got a glitch in the XP boot sequence. I have no recovery disks or anything like that so i have been running on an Ubuntu live disk for several months. So tonight, I just finally reinstalled XP from another disk.
TWO QUESTIONS:
1) It will not recognize that it has a wireless card. So I can't turn on the wireless radio and get online. I am on the computer now with the Ubuntu live cd so I know the wireless works. But when I boot up in XP, it does not see it. What do I do??
2) (not so important) I gave the computer a different name this time. So how can I change the name back to what it was without completely reinstalling XP again?
Thanks for any suggestions. I gotta get this radio going!!

What's the 7-character model number of that T43?

Your wireless driver:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... wc05ww.zip
I'd also suggest visiting the driver page here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... MIGR-58597
My presumption would be that a vanilla XP install does not include a chipset driver, or a proper graphics driver, so I'd start there...
Good luck.

OK...VICTORY IS MINE!!!
Thanks for the advice. The audio driver was not in a simple location but was hidden, embeded in a folder within a folder within a folder, etc. So I dug through and it finally loaded the right sound driver.
So far, I should have known how to do all of this. It's not the first time I have done this. But the last time was at least 7 or 8 years ago and 4 or 5 computers ago. XP is a great OS no matter what anyone says. And this little T43 has sold me on the Thinkpad.
If something else doesn't work, I'll let you guys know. For now, except for all of my "my document" files being in a different folder, things are working fine...finally.
Ya know, you get comfortable with your computer and when you lose it then find it again, it's like coming home to your favorite, comfy chair. Kinda like going away minus your better half then returning home again.
I still am loading the programs/applications one by one. But I had to move most of my photos and music to a different HDD. This little 40gig HDD just is not large enough.
Thanks again for the help.
