external optical drive from T41p internal

#1 Post by achat_2 » Sun Oct 30, 2011 4:02 pm

I would like to have an external optical drive for my recently bought X201s.
The hidden partition on it has been deleted, and I want to take back to its factory original installation of Windows 7 64 bit, with the Recovery disks I just ordered from Lenovo.

I have two identical T41p with the removable Ultrabay Slim DVD/CD drive, so I may sacrifice one of them to make an external.

If I buy something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultraslim-exter ... B004TR12W0

can I be sure that I will able to boot the recovery disks from this USB external optical drive without problems?
I read that not all the external optical drives can work as _bootable_ USB drive.

Or is Lenovo itself selling an original analog of this external caddy?

A.

Your choice is for SATA drives, the T4x uses IDE/PATA drives.
This would be what you need:

I've seen those before, but don't have any experience with them. I'm pretty sure Lenovo doesn't sell them. For £3 more, you can buy this external optical drive. Plus, it's probably a better drive than a T4x drive, which were some of the crappiest drives ever made.

Thanks!

Can you also confirm that I will be surely able to boot from it to install the recovery CD sets?
