2200bg wifi connection drop on wpapsk winxp

#1 Post by irus » Fri Nov 11, 2011 3:39 pm

is there a fix for this problem on windows xp yet except downgrading to bios 3.06f? my wifi connection keeps saying acquiring network address and keeps looping but there is no connection. only time i get a connection is on booting.

it works fine on windows 7 though. so i'm wondering why the problem on windows xp? i'm using the following driver 1ywc54ww.exe which is the latest driver for 2200bg from thinkpad.com

I'm using and older IBM driver with mine in my T42P. I had similar problems using the newer driver I downloaded. I found an older driver in the IBM_SYSTEM folder I'd saved from a system restore of a 2004 T41P. I also had to update Access Connections with the install file from the same folder. Even with the older driver, I found that it would drop the connection after a while if I let Access Connections manage the wifi but not if I let Windows manage it. It is the opposite with an Atheros ABG card in my T40/T42 hybrid. I lose the connection with Windows managing the wifi and it is much better with many more options with Access Connections managing it.
Currently using: A W500, a W520, an X201T, an X220T, an X61T, a 14" T60P,a 15" UXGA T60P and a W700.
Currently idle: A spare W500, a spare X61T, a spare W700, a 14" T61, a 15" SXGA+ T60, a 14" T60, and my first Thinkpad, a 770X.

RBS - same issue with this driver too. Still stuck with WEP. WPA-PSK2 doesnt want to work normally.

MisterB - I guess the old driver has the same issue? can you upload the driver on a free host and give the link here? Are you using WEP now or WPA2?

i'm letting windows manage the connections.

ok i upgraded the drivers to the latest on intel site and using the intel proset software for managing wireless connections. its working! its also working with access connections.

i did notice very high latencies using DPC latency program with the wifi on though. 2000us average and peak up to 32000 us once in a while. Is this common?

update: i got rid of the latencies. the problem was the partition table created by windows 7 which has a hidden 100 mb partition as the first one. i had removed windows 7 and installed windows xp without removing the 100 mb hidden partition. When i deleted all partitions from inside winxp txt mode setup on a fresh c: with no hidden partitions the latency problems disappeared.

i guess windows 7 removal to be totally clean requires a new partition table otherwise causes problems with drivers and some programs which refuse to install in winxp.

thanks both of you :)
