My T43 playing music or video breaks each few seconds

#1 Post by figurehead » Wed Nov 16, 2011 4:36 pm

mouse pointer freezes for a short moment each few seconds. video or music playing interrupts or breaks. restarting machine does not help. can it be hardware problem?

I'm not one of the pro participants on this forum, but seeing you have not yet received a reply I'll contribute with the little I got. I don't know how advanced a user you are, so my apologies in case I'm just stating the obvious.

My initial hunch is whether it has something to do with either CPU load or CPU temperature/capacity. How does it look in Task manager, is the CPU peaking? How fast is the fan spinning when you encounter the problem? Going at high speed? Most CPU's throttle (decrease max speed) when reaching certain threshold temperatures and if so it can not perform operations it is usually able to.

Another hunch is whether it's hard disk related. A disk going bad/being too full/being overly fragmented could perhaps lead to this kind of problem, although this is really more of a guess of mine than a fact.

Some other check questions:
- did you install or upgrade any software before it started happening?
- is it the exact content you have been able to play before?
- have you noticed any other performance drops on the computer?

Well, don't know if this is of any help, but good luck!

Could be a spurious driver interrupt issue. Check with DPC Latency checker (as described here: http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopi ... 88&start=0), and see if you have any unusual delays.

What's the full model number of your T43, should be something like 26xx-xxx or 187x-xxx, located on the same sticker on the bottom of the machine that holds the serial number (don't post that) and the production date code.
