PCMCIA Compact Flash Help?

#1 Post by samsonite » Wed Nov 30, 2011 10:57 am

My T42 only has a 32GB HDD, so I recently bought a 16GB compact Flash card and a PCMCIA adapter to use as extra storage. Unfortunately, I've encountered problems with its read/write speed. Both read and write functions are topping out at about 1 Mbps and when I try to save or access anything larger than a few megabytes the whole system slows down for a bit until the read/write is finished. I've looked up speeds for CF and PCMCIA, and from what I can tell the read/write speed should be much more than what I am getting.

-If it's any help, I was using Bittorrent to download a file to the card and it gave me a message something along the lines of "Disk Overflow"

If you have any ideas about what might be causing the low speed, please let me know. Thank you!

Here is a screenshot from a benchmark program called HDTune:
