T42 Wireless

#1 Post by sbarbee » Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:35 pm

I am having the worst luck with my T42 wireless connection. It drops frequently and can only be reconnect by restarting or putting it to sleep mode and bringing back. It is also running at about a 4mps on a 20 mps connection. P.S. my other computer are running about 19.5. I have looked for updated drivers but to no avail. Any ideas? I am running XP SP3.

What wifi card are you using? (exact make/model, and possibly IBM P/N or FRU)

If you have a stock card (Intel 2100B):

That card is getting long in the tooth, replacing it with a b/g or a/b/g one would be money well spent IMO.

That is the wireless adapter that is installed. What do I need to know to order an upgrade/replacement? I am comfortable doing the swap once I know where and what upgrade to purchase.

Post a WTB ad in the forum's marketplace...these will work:

Intel 2200BG

Intel 2915ABG

IBM (Atheros) b/g, abg

You'll need to remove the keyboard and palmrest in order to swap the card.

They also shouldn't be more than 20-30 bucks off ebay, if you find one.
