Installing RAM on T43???

#1 Post by bencampmovim » Sat Apr 09, 2005 1:49 pm

Can anyone point me towards a resource on how to replac ethe SYSTEM memory? My t43 shipped with 512mb system memory and 1 empty (userr accessible) SO-DIMM slot.

I've already put the 1 gig chip in the SO-DIMM slot, and I need to know what screws to unscrew and where to Remove the 512 system chip to replace it with another 1 gig.

Any help, graphics, or descriptions would be wonderful as the manual has nothing!

thanks!!!

Please go to the IBM support site for your model
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us
and download the hardware maintenance manual. It has explicit pictures and directions for removing the keyboard and then the palm rest (only if necessary). IIRC, the memory is under the keyboard. Dead simple to do.

These 1GB modules are currently hard to find items (at least at a resonable price). The best price that I have found for IBM IGB memory (73P3844) is at buy.com for $245 (and they are almost out of stock). Would you mind sharing more information about your memory modules? Brand? Where you obtained them? How much they cost?

BTW, I am upgrading to a Thinkpad T43 2668-97U ordered through Bill (by far the best deal on the Internet for that machine!) Once I add another Gig of memory, an extended battery, and a Thai keyboard I will be set to cruise.

Im not exactly sure how this whole forum thing works but I ordered my T43 2 days ago and started looking around for memory for it. Came across what I thought was a good deal and thought i'd put it out there:

http://www.ec.kingston.com/shop/partsin ... 533D2S4/1G

$154 for a Kingston 1GB 533MHz DDR2 PC2-4200 SODIMM

only problem i can see is that they say the approx avail. date is tomorrow... so i guess they're not in stock at this very moment. But if you can wait a few days, it looks like a good deal

It is strange that their 1GB DDR2 SODIMM memory is cheaper than their DDR PC2700 SODIMM stuff:

That's really weird.
