Re: t42 fall off the lap
Remove keyboard, KB bezel and palmrest.
Remove and reconnect the LCD cable from/to the motherboard.
Reconnect the keyboard to try it.
If not, probably the CCFL is broken (small light tube in bottom of LCD.
Does the laptop work with an external monitor?

Re: t42 fall off the lap
if CCFL is broken (small light tube in bottom of LCD) upon restart i should got a blank screen but i don't get a blank screen, screen stays onn untill it boot up and then screen goes offf....if the laptop moves just a little bit.
Re: t42 fall off the lap
It could be that the fall and impact has made your TP suffer from the GPU/Southbridge solder issue, described here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=73945
It's just a theory, but worth looking into, particularly since you say it happens when you move it.

Lick on the contacts?ASIS975 wrote:it could be the inverter too ? i ve took out the inverter and its looks good to me. is there a way to chek the inverter ?
Edit: Hmm, seriously. Do you have an external monitor to hook it up to. If you do and it passes the move-the-laptop-around-a-bit test, then you can at least rule out GPU etc and focus on built in monitor problems.

Re: t42 fall off the lap
i did not check yet with extrnal moniter ... but i will check it later today or tomorrow. and i will post the result.
Re: t42 fall off the lap
ok it did not work with external moniter hooked up.external moniter goes black screen after computer moved a little bit.... so what could be it ??
Re: t42 fall off the lap
That definitely sounds like motherboard/gpu/southbridge etc problem, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say how to narrow it down further. Beyond the fact that GPU is the standard-no 1-suspect when a display starts fuzzing, the only thing I can contribute is that display problems is not one of the common SB problems (and perhaps not one at all).
