8X DVD-Rs a problem for T42 multiburners?
8X DVD-Rs a problem for T42 multiburners?
Best Buy had a deal on TDK 8X DVD-Rs--$9.95 for a spindle of 25--so I picked one up. Before I open the package though, I wanted to see if anyone has had a problem with these using the T42 multiburner.

Interestingly enough, I ran into a very similar problem today: I was helping a friend who wanted to reformat his T42p, and he bought a spindle of 25 Staples 8x DVD-Rs. His stock-setup T42 (with Recordnow, DLA installed) couldn't read the discs at all - the multiburner thinks there's no disc inserted. But the drive did work fine with a DVD movie and a DVD-RW disc. He could successfully burn to the DVD-RW and we were able to run the "make compatible" option that closed the disc.
So we tried his DVD-R with my T42p. Mine is a clean install of XP SP2 , and I never reinstalled Recordnow or any other burning software. Windows gave me a generic "cannot copy" error whenever I tried to drag files onto the DVD-R through explorer, so I couldn't burn anything to the disc. I thought it might be the media at this point, but on a whim I loaded up Itunes and tried to burn a Data-DVD. This worked like a charm, and after itunes closed the disc, my computer could now view the disc in explorer. But we popped it into his system, and it couldn't load this burned, closed disc.
I'm not sure where the problem lies now - there's the possibility his drive is bad (mine was at one point as well, had to get a replacement through IBM) or Sonic Recordnow/DLA is somehow incompatible or breaking something...
Anyone have experience/suggestions for this?
